Thanksgiving 2008

Our Thanksgiving Day was spent this year, as tradition has dictated, at the Dorwin house for a delicious meal with our family! Once again, LaNita and Bill outdid themselves and had an awesome meal for all of us--it was so good, I don't think I took a breath until my plate was cleaned! But, I did manage to save some room for a piece of LaNita's banana cream pie--heavenly!!! Andrew ate five buns with LaNita's homemade strawberry jam on them, and she sent home a tupperware bowl of jam JUST FOR ANDREW--he was thrilled!
~~~
Of course, I had my camera along--I didn't take as many pics this year, as I was so busy filling my face, but I did manage to pull myself away from the food long enough to snap a few photos...
~~~
Here is Great-Grandma Lila with Austin--he has passed a landmark, and is now TALLER than Gram! ~~~
Our gracious hostess with the mostess--LaNita!! I had to get the pic with her sporting her nifty apron!
~~~
The other half of the hosting team--Bill--thinking, "could I eat one more piece of pie, or should I have another bowl of homemade ice cream???"
~~~
My favorite little Dorwin girl--PAIGE--she was showing off her stunning new hair cut...
~~~
Grandma Jenni--sounds funny--I'll say it again, Grandma Jenni and her little snuggle-bug, Nolan...
~~~
Little Nolan--this little guy is SO CUTE! I got to hold him and pinch him a little bit--of course, he liked me!!
~~~
Little Jordyn was a busy little girl exploring Auntie Teeny's house--so cute! She was scared of me, and wanted Grandma Sondra to pick her up and save her from me!
~~~
Jordyn, safe with Grandma Sondra!
~~~
Jack, A.K.A. Martha Stewart, brought a stunning cranberry salad, complete with sliced apple, crushed pineapple, and mint leaves for a garnish! (the mint leaves cost $2.00!) He kept us all entertained with his infectious laugh!
~~~
After that big turkey dinner with all the trimmings, some of us were quite tired! Steve and Moriah found a comfy spot to snuggle up for a little shut-eye...
~~~
Mark and Bev were able to make it for the Thanksgiving Festivities--Mark was even able to work it around picking up a load, so the two of them traveled in style to Durand!
~~~
Ross, the bargain shopper, perused the sale fliers after our meal, searching for the stores that offered the best deals for Black Friday...
~~~
I asked Todd and Missy to pose "cheek-to-cheek" for a picture for me--Todd thought they already WERE cheek-to-cheek, as they were sitting rather close on the bench--I didn't mean THOSE cheeks, Todd!
~~~
After our great meal in Durand, we packed up and headed over to Independence with Nicole and Chad to visit Grandma Deb, Grandpa Ken, and Grandpa Edward.
~~~
Toby, the Dorwin Family's dog, provided quite a bit of entertainment for everyone for the evening! Toby had a pretty good day... He snagged a meat ball that someone dropped at LaNita and Bill's, I shared some bits of ham scraps with him at Grandpa Ed's house, and he found a new friend in Grandpa Edward when Grandpa shared a ham bone with him! Yum, yum!
~~~
Sometimes, Toby can be kind of cute!
~~~
Sometimes, people find Toby kind of scary! Like when they (Jamie) tease him and tease him, until Toby gets mad and chases them around the house until they have to jump up on the couch for their own protection!!!
~~~
Jamie is cowering in fear from the ferocious Toby!
~~~
Here is one little boy who LOVES his dog!
~~~
Abby, Carter, and Bradley helped Grandpa Edward decorate his Christmas Trees while we were there. The trees turned out beautiful!

~~~
Bradley figured out that he could take out one of the lights on his string of lights and it would make his whole string of lights go off! He was so funny--he kept taking the light out, and putting it back in--until his mom saw him and convinced him it would be better to leave the light bulb in!
It is always fun when the cousins get together!
An attempt was made at taking a picture of the Klimie Family, too, but, as you will see in the next three pictures, when there are five people to look at the camera and have a pleasant expression on their faces, the chances of it all happening at the same time--at least with our family--is next to nil!!
~~~
Attempt #1
Jamie is mid-sentence, Abby is looking at the floor, Austin looks like he smells something unpleasant, Shana has no eyes, and Andrew is squished...~~~
Attempt #2
Not too bad, but poor Andrew has now inherited his mom's no-eye expression, and there were no smiles to be had from the Squirrel...
~~~
Attempt #3
I think Andrew's expression says it all!
~~~
We ended our day with Austin driving us back to Barron--he gained a bit of experience with night driving and driving on the freeway. He did pretty well, but Andrew informed Jamie and I that only ONE of us should be giving directions when Austin is driving! :-)
~~~
We hope you all had as Happy a Thanksgiving as we did--we all have so much to be thankful for! My top four start with A's and a J!
Happy Thanksgiving!
love,
The Mighty Hunter!!!!!
I got an excited call from Andrew tonight just before dusk--he and Jamie were in their blind, and he had just shot his buck!!! He was so pumped! From what I could gather from his whispered conversation (the buck had just dropped not far from their blind), he shot the buck, it dropped right away, they thought it was an eight-pointer, and they had to wait until dark to go make sure it was dead...
~~~
Austin, Abby, and I waited for a few hours, but Jamie finally had a chance to e-mail us a picture...Congratulations, Andrew!!!!

Happy Birthday to My Hubby!

Happy 37th Birthday to my Handsome Husband, Jamie Craig!!!
The kids and I (and the dogs!) are so lucky to have you--we hope you had a great birthday!!!
~~~
Jamie and Deb (and Toto the dog)--Jamie 6 mos old ~~~
Jamie and Ken--Jamie 8 mos old
~~~
Jamie--8 mos--loved the TV, even way back then!!!
~~~
We started to celebrate Jamie's birthday last night (Saturday) by making the trip to Hayward to the Original Famous Dave's for some B-B-Q Ribs--yum, yum!!! That was Jamie's birthday wish this year. This was the kid's first trip to the Original Famous Dave's Rib Shack--it was DELICIOUS!!!! Jamie also opened a few presents from the Fam last night, as he had an early morning on his birthday day...
~~~
Here is Jamie and his kids--and his dogs--celebrating his 37 years!
~~~
~~~
Today, Jamie's friend, Mike Mitra, took Jamie to Green Bay to go to the Packer/Bear's game at Lambeau Field! It was a cold day, and Mike's team, the Bears, had a horrid game (sorry, Woody!), but us Packer Fans are happy! Poor Mike wasn't feeling well, so Jamie ended up watching most of the game with strangers, but, hey, when you're in Lambeau, no one is really a stranger!!!
~~~
Happy Birthday, Jamie! We love you!!!
love,
Austin, Andrew, Abby,
Jack, Sophie, and
Saturday Basketball and the Sleeper Hold
Saturday afternoon we traveled to Clayton for Abby's Barron Team to play in a tournament. We played Clayton, Siren, and Clear Lake. Andrew came along to take pictures and cheer on his sister while Jamie and I coached--these wonderful photos are compliments of Andrew!
Playing tough defense!
~~~
Good thing she has those knee pads!
~~~
Austin starts basketball practice Monday. He has been keeping busy going to open gym, lifting weights, snowboarding, and wrestling with the dogs. Here he is putting poor Sophie in the "sleeper hold"--the funny thing is, that every time he does this to her, she closes her eyes like she is going to go to sleep!
Usually after he wrestles with the dogs for a bit, they come running to me and "tell" on Austin--it is like having 5 kids in the house!
RVMS On the Road Against Rice Lake
Riverview Middle School went on the road Thursday night to take on Rice Lake--the team that was predicted to be "our only competition" this year in school basketball. Rice Lake has always given us a good run, and Thursday night was no different! The Rice Lake game is always tough for Andrew and a few of his teammates because they played with these boys for quite a few years as teammates when they all played together on the Rice Lake League--it was nice to see that when the game was over, the boys were still able to shake hands and hug as friends.
~~~
Here is Andrew on the free-throw line, ready to sink it!
(yes, he made them both!)~~~
Bringing it up the court with the defense (Zach) waiting for him...
~~~
Calling out the plays...
~~~
The game was VERY CLOSE through the entire game--at one point, we were down by a few baskets, and our guys were hanging their heads. I am happy to say that our guys stuck with it, though, and were able to pull off a victory in the end with a final score of Barron, 48, Rice Lake, 37.
~~~
CONGRATULATIONS, BARRON!!!
~~~
Our next game is Monday against Ladysmith. Ladysmith beat us last year, as our boys were feeling a bit overconfident, so I am hoping they play a bit harder this year!
:-)
