Love Those Locks {Alternately Titled: Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow}

Today was the

BIG DAY!

Today was the long-awaited day that Abby chose to donate her hair to Locks of Love.

Abby decided to donate 10 inches of hair to Locks of Love way back in November of 2009, but we agreed that she would wait until after basketball season so she could still get her hair into a ponytail for games. She has been wanting to cut her hair for quite a while, and when she heard about Locks of Love and that she could donate her hair to help make a wig for a child with cancer who had lost her hair, she thought that sounded great! One of Abby's friends, Jolene, won a battle with cancer over the last year, so Abby had a chance to see first-hand the effects of chemo and how it can cause people to lose their hair.

Here is Abz in the salon chair, her hair already separated into three ponytails, just waiting for the first snip...

At this point, mom is practically hyperventilating! The last pony is about to be snipped...

... and voila! Ten inches gone, and feeling ten pounds lighter!

But, the snipping didn't stop there! Our stylist friend, Holly, washed Abby's hair and began to cut it into a style. I think, in the end, it got shorter than either Abby and I actually anticipated, but it still turned out very cute!

We are proud of Abby for donating her hair and for thinking of others who may need her hair at a time in their life when they are sick and scared.

Our Abz is a great kid!
