The Rails Visit the Bear's Den
Thursday night found us on the bleachers again--this time at home while the Bears took on the Spooner Rails. Our BHS JV played a tough game and stayed even with the Rails throughout the game.
~~~
Working past the man-to-man press was no problem for Eddie...
~~~
Our boys played hard and ended up going into overtime, but the final score in overtime had the Rails with two more points than the Bears...
~~~
Austin has had the opportunity to help out a few Saturdays with the Little Hoopers Youth Basketball program. During halftime of the Varsity game, the Little Hoopers came out on the floor to demonstrate for the crowd the skills they have learned. Austin helped the little boys with their ball-handling skills...
Here Comes the Tooth Fairy!
On Wednesday, Abby came home working on her loose tooth. She had been wiggling it on Tuesday night at the game--Bailey was helping her, too. You know you have a good friend when she is willing to stick her fingers in your mouth and wiggle your loose tooth! (Oh, the germs!)
~~~
Well, Abz was bound and determined to get her tooth out on Wednesday. She is convinced she has what she refers to as the "Shana Curse" that causes her teeth to never get loose and fall out. (My teeth took forever to fall out as a kid...) She worked and worked and---VOILA! Out popped her tooth on the lower left-hand side of her mouth! She was so proud!
~~~
We went on about our afternoon activities, and Abby disappeared upstairs into her room. Soon, I could hear her hooting and hollering and she came running downstairs to show me this...Yep, she had pulled the tooth on the other side! She was so pumped! Her friend, Sarah, is also missing these two teeth, and Abz wanted to have HER teeth gone, too! Enjoy the picture of her bloody holes! (And ignore the food in her teeth, please!)
~~~
Here is Abby's offering for the Tooth Fairy--complete with bloody stumps and pocket lint from her carrying them around in her jeans pocket!
Tuesday's Travel to Bloomer
Tuesday night, Austin and the BHS boys played in Bloomer against the Blackhawks. Bloomer always provides tough competition, and Tuesday night was no exception!
~~~
Austin, although his offensive points were not as high as they have been in the past, had a great defensive game, and he, once again, did an awesome job working the ball up the court. Here he is taking the ball to the hoop...~~~
Inspite of our BHS JV efforts, we ended up on the losing end of the scoreboard at the end of the game...
In Barron, our administration has been experimenting with a few different seating arrangements for our fans. Typically, every gym that we visit in the Heart 'O North Conference has bleachers on both sides of the gym, with the exception of Barron's home gymnasium. Due to this limited seating, our BHS students were often sitting side-by-side with the visiting students. As you can imagine, this could erupt into a wild situation at times, with verbal "insults" flying between the two student sections during tight games. Thus, the seating experimentation we are now experiencing. Our beloved high school principal, Mr. Haugestuen, has received much ribbing about the seating changes--most of it from me! He, in turn, is always kind enough to point out when I am sitting in the wrong fan section--which, as a stubborn creature of habit, I frequently do. Imagine my surprise, when we were at Bloomer, to catch Mr. Haugestuen sitting in the VISITING STUDENT SECTION of the stands!!! Of course, I had to take a picture as evidence, and just so you know, Jamie and I were in the Visiting Adult section--right where we belonged!
Abby and Bailey had a good time at the game tasting all of the snacks the Bloomer concession stand had to offer. Here was their prize find...
Our Varsity game was a very intense game. The game was very physical and the refs did not do a good job of keeping control of the game. I don't believe either team got in the bonus in the first half. One of our Barron Boys, Kyle, was injured quite badly when he went up to block a shot and landed on his head when he came down. He lost consciousness and had a seizure. The ambulance had to come to take him to the hospital where he spent the night. Kyle is now out for the rest of the season, but he is doing well, aside from a bit of memory loss and some headaches. It was a very scary moment (actually 20 minutes) for our team and our fans--we are thankful that Kyle will be fine, but we will sure miss him on the court for the rest of the season!
Oh--I forgot to say that our Varsity won the game by one point!
Eighth Grade Bears in Chippewa Falls
The Golden Bears Eighth Grade Boys travelled to Chippewa Falls on Saturday for another basketball tournament. It turned out to be a long day for our Bears, as they once again lost their first game of the day against Durand. The old first game of the day kicks them in the pants every tournament!
~~~
Our boys then went on to beat Ladysmith quite easily. That was a fun game to watch, but, unfortunately, Nick rolled his ankle during that game and was out for the remainder of the tournament. That made our injured count up to three--Neil and Isaiah were already sitting on the bench in street clothes due to injuries!

It wasn't a good day for our Bears. Andrew, too, stepped on an opponent's foot and rolled his ankle during the last game of the day against Stillwater. He sat out for the rest of the game (the entire second half), and our remaining boys sure played hard with little subbing. Here is Andrew icing his ankle...

He is still complaining of a sore ankle today, but it isn't swollen, so I guess that is good. He will have a few days to rest it now, as they have their Monday night practice cancelled.

BHS JV Cuts Down the Lumberjacks!
The Barron Golden Boys hosted the Ladysmith Lumberjacks in Barron on Friday night. Our JV boys played well with two subs on the bench again. I guess that will be our new normal for the rest of the year, as it appears David Sloan has moved up permanently to Varsity.
