Bears Superior in Superior

Andrew's team, the Golden Bears, traveled to Superior on Saturday to play in an eighth grade tournament. Surprisingly, our boys showed up ready to play their first game! Their past history over the years, with this year showing no exceptions, have our boys dragging their tails during the first games, and they play very poorly.
~~~
The Bears came out strong against the Grand Rapids team, and ended up beating them soundly with a score of ____. Well, I guess I don't remember! I was going to look smart and post the scores, but I can't remember, and they are not posted on the web site yet (http://www.gnbl.org/LeagueSchedules/0809/8BSchedules08-09.pdf),
so, all I can say is that we beat them by over 20 points!
Our second game was against Ashland. Once again, our boys were looking good and playing well as a team. Once again, I don't remember the score! Once again, we won by over 20 points! I guess I could go look up the texts I sent to Jamie with the final scores, but that may require me to leave my chair. If you are that curious, visit the link above to find the scores!
Here is Andrew beating the man-to-man press Ashland put on us...~~~
Andrew is taking it to the basket in this pic for a lay-up--he's the talented one behind Ashland's number 11!
One more shot of Andrew working thru the man-to-man press...
Ashland had a few colorful players. My friend, Kelli, and I entertain ourselves by watching certain players from the other teams. Number 30 from Ashland, the guy in the middle, started the game, but was pulled out after he got a technical for swearing and he never got back in for the rest of the game. Number 11--the one with his arms crossed on the right--was so angry on the court, that he started fouling like a madman, and then he was yanked out by his coach when he started screaming at his fellow teammates. He sat for a very long time.
Hey, us girls have to have some form of alternate entertainment during these games when the score is so lopsided!
Unfortunately, our third game of the day was against our nemesis, Superior. This is where my title for this blog entry, "Bears Superior in Superior" may be stretching it a little! Our boys were obviously intimitated by this team and their hometown crowd that was packing the gym. Barron came out playing weak and it didn't get any better throughout the entire game. We just couldn't make any shots, our offense wasn't running smoothly, and we didn't play smart defense. Again, I can't tell you the score of the game, but we lost this one by more than 20. :-( This was a bummer, as we only lost by one point to Superior when we played them 2 weeks ago in Barron.
~~~
Our final game was against Duluth East. This was a team that trounced on us at League Championships back on January 4th. This was a great game to watch! We ended up in overtime with a score of 47 - 47 at the buzzer! To make a long 2 minute overtime short, we ended up winning by one point! A very exciting game!
~~~
When the games were all over, our boys walked away with red second-place ribbons. Not too shabby for a day of basketball!
~~~
Next weekend is a weekend off of tournaments!

Good going Bears! Andrew, I'm sure that you are pretty tired by the time that a day of 4 games are over.

We still hope to see your April game!
