Thursday night was the Riverview Middle School's 7th and 8th Grade Choir Concert, entitled, "American Pop Forever". The theme was 70's and 80's music, and the kids were to dress accordingly. Andrew chose an 80's theme.
~~~
Popped collar, gelled hair, Chuck Taylor's, and......tight-rolled jeans!!!!
ahhh, those were the days!
~~~
Here is Andrew showing his enthusiasm for the concert...
~~~
Some of the songs the kids sang included: "Turn the Beat Around", You're the One That I Want", "I Will Survive", "YMCA", "Eye of the Tiger", "Flashdance-What a Feeling", and "We Built This City", to name several of the selections.
~~~
Another shot of Andrew--right out of the late 1980's!
~~~
The concert had an American Idol theme--complete with the four judges.
L to R: Kara, Simon, Paula, and Randy
(complete with Coca-Cola's--boy, was my mouth watering!)
~~~
There were about seven students that sang either duets or solos that the judges "critiqued"--these two girls were my favorite. Tawny and Baillie sang one of my favorite songs, "1985",--it's kind of my theme song!!!

There was also a performance by the swing choir--here is Timmy and Elliott surrounded by girls--they are loving it!

I would like to say good things about the concert, but I don't have much nice to say. My mom always told me that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all...

BUT... The idea behind the concert was great, but, unfortunately the kids didn't know the music very well. It would have also been really neat if they would have done some dances or at least some motions--like disco moves or the "YMCA", but they all just stood there. The poor kids that sang solos and duets could not hear their music, and they were off key and off rhythm during their songs. You could hear that they were talented singers, but, unfortunately, this concert did nothing to showcase their talents. Then, to make matters worse, when they were done singing, they were critiqued by the "judges" in the American Idol competition--it was so PAINFUL!!! We all felt bad for the kids. This is the music teacher's first year...

Anyway, some of the kid's costumes were absolutely SMASHING! My two favorites were Andrew and Neil. Andrew, as I mentioned, chose the 80's era of dress, and Neil went all-out in his 70's threads!
Check out these hotties!

Neil....it takes a confident man to dress like THAT in public.....you rock
Andrew - your mom would still be rolling her cuffs if it were acceptable!
Those rolled up pants sure brings back memories!!
Groovy.
Now Andrew can sing along with his mom when she listens to the "oldies" on the radio! :)
Oldies, oldies - you guys don't know what oldies are! Let's get a little ducktail at the back of the head and Tee shirts with rolled sleeves and big old belt buckles! Sing a little Elvis.
Gram Pat
Only a professional could get those tight-rolled jeans looking that good. Oh, how I miss the frizzy, spiked hair on one side, tucked-in one-too-many shirts, and rolled pants with matching socks scrunched down...........NOT!!!!!
