H.I.T.'s 2009: Fun, Family, and Friends

Well, here is my long-overdue blog post about our fun times at the H.I.T.'s--otherwise known to you non-Hillcrest readers as the Hillcrest Invitational Alumni Basketball Tournaments. Every year, our family, extended family, and friends of the family form a team (which has now grown to two teams--Generation Gap I and Generation Gap II) to play in this two-day long tournament. Our team name(s) reflect the fact that our players span the generations--from Grandpa Denny at 60+ years to Andrew at 13!

~~~
This event is something my family looks forward to with anticipation every year. Not only does it incorperate our FAVORITE sport, basketball, we get to spend time with our "Fergus Cousins" and have a fun weekend with family!
~~~

This year was no exception for fun! And we had a new member of the family to help cheer on our teams! Yep, I am talking about little Ty Cameron Lewis!

~~~
Little Ty even had his own basketball for the occasion...~~~
Ty's mommy made him his own Generation Gap basketball shirt to wear for the games...
~~~
Everyone wanted snuggle time with Baby Ty. Here is Ty and his "Greatie". Little Ty was such a good boy at the games, and he even got in a few naps, as you can see from the photo below. (Isn't his little tushie sticking out so cute!?!)
~~~
Ty played pat-a-cake with Kara...
~~~
...and Jeremy had some fun playing with the little guy, too!

~~~
Of course, our little Allie Marie was there for all of the games, too. She had so much fun playing with the "big girls"! I had so much fun playing with HER! She is so CUTE!!!
~~~
Here are the four girl cousins in their attempt to form a pyramid for me to photograph. Poor Allie just didn't quite get the idea that she was supposed to be on the top of all of that mess!

Allie had a great time playing basketball with the big girls between games.
~~~
Allie snuggling with Uncle Jordan.
~~~
Austin and Andrew played on the Generation Gap II team with Trent, Tim, Brittany, Grandpa Denny, and Spencer, Sid, and Lee Christianson. They all played really well--especially given the fact that they never have practiced together!

~~~
Here is Andrew taking advantage of the defense sagging off.~~~
Andrew pulls up and aims for nothin' but net!
~~~
Austin had a great time playing with his team. Here he pulls up for two...

~~~
A hook shot from Eddie!
~~~
Could it be??? Air Dennis strikes again!

~~~
Beyond the three-point line...
~~~
Brittany on one of her many drives to up the score by two more!

~~~
Big Tim surveying his possibilities...
~~~
Trent for two--even with the body contact!

~~~
In between games and halves, Abby and the rest of the cousins shot some hoops. Timmy was kind enough to help Abby work on her Dunk Form...
~~~
I think Tim forgot something--or someone!

~~~
Allie and Zac had some fun together on the bleachers...~~~
Auntie Sheila gave Allie some pon-poms to help her cheer on the team. She had fun with them, but I am not sure she used them quite like they were meant to be used...
~~~
Jeremy and Kara watching Gen Gap II...

~~~
Someone didn't feel like playing on the team this year, even though it seems he still has the "touch". Maybe he will reconsider for next year???
~~~
Generation Gap I played most of their games at different times than Generation Gap II, so we were able to watch both teams play a lot this weekend. Here is Zac showing off his skills from the tres line...

~~~
Wes pulling up for the shot.
~~~
Jordan grabbing some air--must be the shoes?!

~~~
Jeremy demonstrating the art of good shooting form!
~~~
Eric playing big down under the basket...

~~~
Scott shoots for two!
~~~
Our two teams had lots of enthusiastic and supportive fans following them from gym to gym...

~~~
~~~

~~~
The three older girl cousins had a blast hanging out together, talking, and being generally silly! Here are a few pics of the three girls, Morgan, Emily, and Abby...
One "exciting" event from H.I.T.'s--there was a spotting of Carl Selvig, my old history (?) teacher from Hillcrest. Why is this exciting, you ask?? Well, Tim told my kids a story several years ago that went something like this:
He asked Mr. Selvig if he remembered a girl named Shana from several years ago that may have been in one of his classes. Mr. Selvig thought for a moment, and then with a look of pain upon his face, he exclaimed, "DAVIS!" in a voice that was less-than-pleased.
Of course, this story has been embellished on over the years by three Klimies, and now, the "DAVIS!" is accompanied by a raised pointer finger, a raspy voice, and leering eyeballs! So, inadvertantly, Carl Selvig has become somewhat of a celebrity in our house!
Here is the great man, himself...
~~~
I got pictures of Sid and Spencer (see the two pics below), but I did not manage to get pics of their dad, Lee, and of Eric Simonsen, who played on Generation Gap I--what a bummer! Anyway, here are Sid and Spencer aiming for the hoop...

~~~
~~~
Generation Gap I suffered 2 losses in their tournament play. Unfortunately, I don't know what place that put them in. They all played well, though, and we sure had fun watching them!

~~~
Generation Gap II ended up playing in the Championship Game on Saturday night! They were undefeated up until that point, and although they played hard, they did not come away with the first place plaque. They did, however, clinch the second place win. This assures them of being in the same division next year! Yeah, Gap!
Here is their second-place plaque... ~~~
What a fun weekend of basketball--and what a great time watching my two boys play basketball together on the same team!
Thanks, Fergus Family, for letting us stay with you while we were out there. We all had a great time, and although we were beat when we got home, we can't wait to do it again!
I do believe that you're the only one who took any pictures! Could I have you e-mail me the ones of Ty and Zac please? I need some for the scrapbook!
